Albany, Texas – November 28, 2022: The Fort Griffin Fandangle is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year! The oldest outdoor musical in Texas, the Fandangle has been a tradition in Albany since 1938. This year, they will be commemorating the anniversary with a special logo and many festivities around the show.
“The Fandangle is unlike any show that exists today,” said Fandangle artistic director Lorna Ayers. “For any show to stand the test of time for 85 years, especially one produced by a small Texas town of less than 2,000 people, is truly unique and needs to be experienced.”
The Fort Griffin Fandangle is a historical, musical production presented by the people of Albany, Texas. Beneath the summer stars of the Texas sky, history comes alive the last two weekends of June with singing, dancing, pantomime and pageantry. Over 250 Albany performers authentically recreate Texas of the 1800’s in a beautiful acre size outdoor amphitheater, lovingly named our Prairie Theater.
For 85 years, the Fandangle has told the story of the founding of our area, complete with the Plains Indians, soldiers, and settlers. Relive the heroism and hardships, the humor and humility of the early settlers. Watch as covered wagons, horses and riders, and a majestic herd of longhorn tell the tales of the cowboy. See the founding of a fort on a hill and the town that sprang to life beneath it. Join in the merriment of the dancing, singing, and storytelling and even be introduced to the “biggest gol durn rattlesnake ever seen by mortal eyeball.” Come be a part of history at the Fort Griffin Fandangle, Albany, Texas.
"The Fandangle and its history is what makes Albany and the surrounding area so special,” said Fandangle Board President Henry Musselman. “The way this community supports this event is why it has been a tradition here for 85 years and will be for many more to come.”
